1. How did LERA® get its name?
LERA® Adaptogen Blend is an enhanced formula originally envisioned by Dr. I. I. Brekhman in 1992. He theorized that a complex co-extraction would bring forth the benefit of all of the components of an herbal blend in such a way that 1 + 1 would be greater than 2. This was proven in the original studies measuring stress protective activity and tonic (endurance) tests.
In 2002, a team of Brekhman’s protégés sought to enhance the original herbal blend through the addition of natural antioxidants. These would have a synergy with the original product and elevate the product to a new level of benefit to users.
Part of the process of registering the new formula was naming. The scientists who created the new product had not thought of a name. When asked by the government officials when submitting the new formulation for testing and registration for the name, we only had a blank look. The registration official noticing our not having a specific name for registration said, “Well, lets just call it LERA.”
Why LERA? These are the first letters of the top four herbs in the blend.
L for Leusea (Rhaponticum)
E for Eleuthero
R for Rhodiola
A for Aralia.
in Russian: ЛЕРА®
The name stuck and is a registered trademark of Sunrise Global Trading, LLC of Winter Garden, FL, USA.
The team who worked with Dr. Brekhman on his original formula is very proud of continuing the vision of Brekhman in developing LERA® Adaptogen Blend. As a member of the team that developed LERA, I’m very proud of this product.
The vision continues. As new science is available, new processes and potential contribution of other qualified natural ingredients are being considered for further enhancement.
Science is not static, nor are we!

2. Does LERA include GMO ingredients?
A very good question. We are very proud to say and certify that LERA® Adaptogen Blend is nonGMO compliant. There are no genetically modified organisms in any of ingredients in LERA.
All of the herbs used are wild-crafted, that is to say grown in nature and not cultivated. The Russian Federation recognizes wild crafting as being the same as organic. We comply with all the technical conditions required under the pharmacopeia articles for harvesting and manufacturing the LERA blend.
3. How long should I continue to take LERA? After I feel better, should I stop?
LERA is an adaptogenic preparation that is formulated for continuous use. As long as it is designated to help you to maintain your homeostasis and prevent you from everyday stress there is no need to stop using it once you begin to feel better. Moreover, when you start to feel that you are no longer seeing changes, that means that you are in the optimum shape and in order to continue this condition you should not discontinue to use LERA.
In our life we have periods of beneficial and not beneficial. For example periods of fall and spring are usually coupled with higher level if illnesses. During these periods it is highly recommended to use LERA as at that time your body is subjected to higher load of external factors and needs to be supported to maintain good protection from viruses and bacteria. In summer, when the body usually has higher levels of its own protection, you might pay little less attention for remedies to support you organism. Of course, this works for people, who have good health and an active style of living. For those with a less beneficial life style, LERA Is recommended for using all year round.

4. I work night shift. When is the best time to take LERA for my schedule?
LERA is a moderate stimulator of different body functions. Usually the best time to us LERA in the morning with breakfast, this helps to maintain healthy homeostasis during the working day to keep mental and physical activity on the highest level.
For the people that work a night shift it is recommended to do the opposite, as for them evening from the work point of view means morning. In other words the best time to use LERA is with the last meal before going to work.
It is well known that work on a night shift has a negative impact to circadian circles which eventually brings an increase of cortisol in blood, also consequences that result in more susceptibility of the body to the development of metabolic syndrome manifestations. Using LERA as an adaptogen remedy will help to diminish disturbance of circadian cycles and thus reducing the overall stress intensity and support adequate activity of the body within the night shift.

5. Is CBD from hemp an adaptogen?
CBD - cannabidiol is not new on the herbal market and has a sudden surge in its popularity. CBD may be the hottest ingredient in the market place at the present time.
CBD has been studied but the science is open ended at this point. Though there are many reported benefits related to the proper use of CBD oils, we cannot classify CBD as an adaptogen.
Keep in mind that which qualifies something to be named an adaptogen:
1. Adaptogens must be safe at any level of use that is non-toxic to the recipient.
2. Adaptogens will have a non-specific response on the organism.
3. Adaptogens has a normalizing influence on physiology, irrespective of the direction of change from the physiological norms caused by the stressor.
There is yet far too much unknown about the long-term use of CBD oils. Dr. Israel Brekhman, the Father of Adaptogens, suggested that hemp extracts, while valuable for specific purpose, also contribute to what he called “dependolic behavior” patterns. That is, while not addictive per se, hemp extract and marijuana can create a dependency that could lead to addictive behavior causing the user to seek products that exceed that which the hemp extract alone can provide.
Another example of products that can cause addictive behavior or that are “dependolics” as Brekhman called them, are white sugar and products high in simple sugars.
Sorry if this answer is not what you wanted to hear however, we would not be faithful to Brekhman’s definition were we to classify hemp extract as adaptogenic.
[Michael Dowling, who composed this response, spent many hours with Dr. Brekhman in his home in Vladivostok, Russia and in his library, a room he called his “Thinkalorium”, where over the course of nearly three years, thoughts, concepts and many informative discussions were had about adaptogens and human health.]

7. What if I forget to take LERA for several days?
LERA acts as an adaptogen and its role is to bring your body to the optimal level of homeostasis when there is decline in any direction. Homeostasis is the tendency to resist change in order to maintain a stable, relatively constant internal environment. Which means that when your body is in the state of homeostasis it has considerable potential to keep this state independently from external environment.
LERA, as with many similar preparations, has a tendency to accumulate its impact to the body within a course of administration. In other words we have some deposit of the biologically active substances in the body that may remain. This deposit serves as a factor that allows the body to support homeostasis for an indefinite period of time.
After this deposit is exhausted, the body will switch to its own resources, which is enough when you have an absolutely healthy organism, but which is questionable under the current living environment and nutritional habits.
In other words, forgetting to take LERA for several days is not critical and will not bring any considerable changes in homeostasis, but discontinuing using it eventually will bring your body to the condition of homeostasis on the level that you had before starting using LERA – lower than with it – which means reducing of the quality of life, weaker health and more susceptibility to disease.

8. Will LERA help me lose weight?
Main aspects of anti-obesity action of LERA® Adaptogen Blend
1. Adipose tissue
a. Reduce differentiation of adipocytes (Proanthocyanins – Viburnum, Hawthorn)
b. Increase beta oxidation of fatty acids, which reduce fat deposits (Proanthocyanins – Viburnum, Hawthorn)
c. The administration of proanthocyanidins normalize plasma triglyceride and LDL- cholesterol (both parameters significantly increased with the High Fat Diet – Cafeteria Diet) but tended to decrease hypercholesterolemia and fatty liver. Gene expression analyses revealed that proanthocyanidins repress both the expression of hepatic key regulators of lipogenesis and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), all of which were overexpressed by the High Fat Diet (Proanthocyanins – Viburnum, Hawthorn).
2. Energy metabolism
a. Adaptogens as Eleutherococcus, Leusea, Rhodiola – stimulate and normalize energy metabolism, including the main oven of fat – Krebs cycle. This is by from one hand supply the substrates in a form from organic acids from Sorbus, Viburnum and Hawthorn and from another – speed up the process of recovering of the oxidized NAD+ pool, which is critical for supporting the high activity of Krebs cycle.
b. Adaptogens and polyphenols from LERA activate betta oxidation of fatty acids, which is from one hand is the main part of fat depo (more than 70%) and from another is better source of energy then carbohydrates as not interrelated with insulin activity which support carbohydrates deposit in a form of fat.
3. Stress a. Cortisol and other stress hormones are proved to support the lipogenesis and disturb the circadian circles, which is in its turn support additional lipogenesis. Adaptogens help to prevent increasing and support the decreasing of the cortisol levels which help to maintain the normal weigh and adjust it to the normal level if it is higher.
4. At the same time, it is necessary to remember, that health diet excluded short carbohydrates and reach in dietary fiber with balanced amount of protein and good fats (reach in polyunsaturated fatty acids) together with adequate physical activity will help to reduce weight and keep it maintenance on the desired level. LERA will help with that.
